"A must-buy tome for all trustees" Financial Times, Monday 27 Feb 2006

Since 2002 I have been in the odd position of being a financial and business journalist who is also a pension fund trustee. I rather fell into the latter role, thinking that it might give me some new insights into finance. Little did I realise that it was about to become a whole lot more interesting. I became involved in, and perplexed by, the debates that trustees have been facing to do with governance, funding and investment. There was a huge amount of information out there, but not much in the way of useful advice. And it gradually dawned on me that lots of trustees must be finding it quite a challenge and could use a plain-spoken and clearly written book that tried to tell them how to think about some of the big problems and issues. Essentially this is a book for trustees. But there are other constituents who might benefit from reading it -- actuaries, consultants, finance directors, even chief executives. My goal is to help the entire system of pension fund governance to become more effective and efficient.
